I just want to show off my cute baby
So, yesterday I felt the need to tell everyone about all my favorite baby items that I either never heard of or was told not to get by other mom’s. It got me thinking about stuff that everyone told me I did need that turned out not to be true.
Let me out!
Convertible crib – Everyone said you get one of these so that you’ll be set until your child is ready to move out. Kaylee was set until she was 18 months. She hated the toddler bed because it was too small for her. She likes rolling around. Plus when she was sick or just having a bad dream she wanted us to lay down with her. So, now she’s in a full bed. She loves it so much and everyone is happier. But convertible cribs convert up to twins not full. So we never really used the toddler bed and will never use the twin bed portion of it. We could have saved a bunch of money and just gotten a regular crib. Maybe our next kid will like the convertible part.
OMG! What is that???
Bouncer – Kaylee did not like one of these at all (can't you tell from the picture). So, what we discovered is that not all kids like the same things. Borrow one of these from a friend and see if your baby likes it before you spend the cash.
I'm just waiting for you to come get me
Swing – We got lucky and a friend lent us one of these. That was a good thing because Kaylee didn’t like it much. That would have been a costly mistake is we had purchased one.
I love tummy time
Activity Center – Yeah my kid is weird. She was okay with this thing, but she enjoyed it just as much as just plain old lying on the floor. I placed a rolled up towel under her arms while she was on her belly, put a mirror in front of her and she was set. More wasted money.
There are a lot of little thing I can think of too but these are the major ones. Honestly the important thing is to remember that every child is different. If you have a friend who can lend any big ticket items to you then take them up on the offer. If you can find items at consignment, thrift stores, craigslist or ebay then I highly recommend you get them there. Try not to buy stuff new, that way if it does turn out to be a flop with your baby you won’t feel like you wasted a ton of money.
Emily did like her bouncer and swing - though I think we got the swing from Todd's parents and I think we may have gotten the bouncer at a garage sale.
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't quite thrilled with the activity center, but I think we got that as a present too. I think a good motto is 'Try To Get Baby Stuff Cheap'
Kaylee would cry and screech every time we put her in a swing. A bouncer worked for about 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with you. Every parents motto should be buy used crap, lol.
