| My little girl at 1 week |
When you’re pregnant everyone gives you advice. In fact people just walk up to you in the store and give you advice. I got to the point where my line of thinking was, “The next person to tell me about the benefits of milk is dead.” Or something like that.
Yeah, so I am totally going to be like all those jerks and now dispense my wisdom. Of course you have the choice to not read it at least.
Like I was saying, you get a lot of advice. But I did discover that some of it was right (after all it can’t all be wrong). There are items that aren’t considered necessary when having a baby, but now that I’ve been through it I would never do it again without these. They are my go to items that I can’t see how others live without.

Diaper Genie – Or some form of diaper holding apparatus. We tried going without and boy does your house smell without one of these, unless you cloth diaper of course. If I had it to again I would buy one of those brands that lets you use your own trash bags, because it would be cheaper. With the Diaper Genie brand you have to buy refills that cost 6.99 each. You’ll go through one of those every two weeks. There are brands available online that use regular old trash bags, but I’ve never seen them in stores.

Changing Table – Everyone said to just get a dresser and put a changing pad on top. Our changing table has been so useful and helpful. Kaylee is only now starting to outgrow hers at 2. The changing table was great because we were able to teach her to be calm while on the table. Also, I put little baskets on it and boom, excellent storage location. I keep all her diapers, changing stuff and baby accoutrements on it. Everything from her toddler locks to medicine. If it’s related to my daughter it’s in her changing table baskets.

Jumperoo – No one even told me about this one, I had to discover this amazing gadget on my own. And then I was amazed to discover how many people didn’t use them. Kaylee loved her jumperoo. I actually put her into it before she could hold her own back up and stuck a pillow behind her. I just waited until she could hold her head up (that part is important). I was able to put her in it for 45 minutes at a time 3 times a day so I could get stuff done. In fact I miss those days. She loved it too and looked forward to her jumperoo time every day. Beware though; stop using it once they can walk.

Plush play pads – Okay this one is mainly for mom’s peace of mind. If you don’t have cushy carpets then you might lose your lunch a few times when your toddler is learning how to crawl and then walk. I found I didn’t freak out as bad once I had plush play pads for her.
| Best Invention Ever |
Shopping Cart Cover – I didn’t have one of these for the standard reasons. Mine actually came with removable side pillows. These pillows were good for before she could sit up on her own, because they helped prop her up and she could take a nap while in the cart if she wanted. I found it on Amazon and I think every parent should have one.
So, there is my possibly unwanted mommy advice. If this is your first then good luck and remember that it gets easier (not really, you just mellow out some). Being a parent will never be easy, although it is very rewarding. Therefor anything you can buy that makes your job easier is certainly worth the money.
My next post will be about items that I didn't need and was told I did and then I think I'll do one about stuff I wish I had and plan on getting next time around. Keep an eye out!

I agree with all but the shopping cart cover - those I think are a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteEmily loved her jumperoo a lot, though all that jumping caused several poop explosions *L*
Boppy is on my list of must haves - that thing was awesome.
I think that the shopping cart cover for its original purpose is useless. Who gives about the germs? I don't want to raise my daughter in a bubble. What was amazing about it was she could sit in it on her own starting at 3 months. No stroller or baby seat needed for grocery shopping.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we just stuck her car seat basket thingee in the cart. I don't get the whole 'OMG germs!' thing - we need germs to help our immune system.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just hated the darn car seat took up the whole cart. That's why I bought it. It was so awesome for that and she loved being able to see everything!
